Does your Bulex boiler start, stop and restart shortly afterwards? Repeated brief running periods may be short cycling, but not every noise or stop indicates a fault. First establish which component is actually running, in which mode and for how long. These observations guide diagnosis and avoid replacing parts on an impression alone.
Distinguish the burner, pump and demand
The pump can keep circulating after the burner stops. A fan or a keep-warm function may also be audible without a complete space-heating cycle. Check the symbols in the user manual and record whether the behaviour occurs during heating or hot water use.
There is no universal number of starts per hour that identifies every boiler as faulty. Burn duration, outdoor conditions and demand matter. A recent change in behaviour is particularly useful to report.
When demand falls below minimum output
A modulating boiler can reduce its output, but not indefinitely. In mild weather, a small heating zone may need less heat than the burner’s minimum output. The appliance then reaches its target and stops before a long running period is possible.
The maximum output printed on the boiler does not explain the issue on its own. The technician considers modulation range and the demand actually active. Several small zones need suitable coordination. A more powerful replacement is not an automatic answer.
Check circulation and controls
Insufficient circulation, closed valves or a pump issue can make water temperature inside the appliance rise quickly. Circuit condition and flow distribution need examining. New noises and poorly heated radiators add useful information.
The thermostat can also interrupt demand through an affected measurement location, unsuitable scheduling or interaction between zones. Do not change installer parameters for gas, output or delays to hide the cycling. A Bulex diagnosis connects controls, measurements and hydraulic operation.
Separate space heating from hot water comfort
Some models keep a heat exchanger or small store warm to prepare domestic hot water. Starts outside a space-heating request can therefore be an intended function. The manual explains comfort mode and the options available to the user.
Report unstable water temperature, fault codes and reduced comfort separately. Do not keep resetting the appliance or dismantle it. A safety shutdown is not a setting to bypass.
Make a simple record before the visit
Over a short period, note burner starts visible on the display, approximate duration, active mode and hot water draw-offs. Add the requested temperature, affected rooms and any displayed code. A video of the display may help without opening the boiler.
During maintenance or a visit in Brussels, the professional can determine whether the behaviour is normal, related to settings or caused by a fault. If system design is involved, a replacement assessment should compare minimum output and controls, not just maximum output.

Does short cycling always mean the boiler is oversized?
No. Low demand is one possible cause. Circulation, controls and faults can produce similar behaviour.
Why can the pump still be heard after the burner stops?
Pump overrun may be normal. Check the explanation in the exact model’s manual.
Can I increase the anti-cycling delay myself?
Do not change an installer parameter without diagnosis. A delay does not necessarily fix the cause and may affect comfort.
