HEATING ADVICE · BRUSSELS

A condensing boiler may recover less heat than expected when heating circuit conditions are unfavourable. The temperature of the water returning from the radiators often plays a central role. Before changing the settings on your Bulex boiler, distinguish the different temperatures and consider how the complete installation operates.

Why return temperature matters
Condensation recovers some of the heat contained in the water vapour in flue gases. To encourage this process, the heat exchanger surfaces need to be sufficiently cool. The return temperature of the heating water directly influences those conditions.
The selected heating flow temperature is not the return temperature. It is also different from the desired living-room temperature and the domestic hot water temperature. Copying an internet value without making this distinction can reduce comfort without solving the cause.
Match temperature to the building’s needs
A high heating temperature throughout the season may be unnecessary in mild weather. Compatible weather-compensating controls can adapt water temperature to conditions and demand. Their heating curve still needs to suit the building and heat emitters.
The aim is to deliver the necessary heat through coherent operation. A setting that is too low for insufficiently sized radiators may leave rooms cold. Make user adjustments gradually while monitoring comfort, and leave installer parameters to the professional.

Assess circulation and heat distribution
Very warm rooms alongside cold rooms may indicate a distribution issue worth investigating. Flow rates, balancing, radiator condition and pump operation influence the circuit. Diagnosis needs to connect measured temperatures with the actual demand conditions.
Do not arbitrarily close almost all radiators to try to lower the return temperature. The boiler needs suitable circulation. If heating becomes uneven, a check of the Bulex boiler and heating circuit can identify the cause before components are replaced.
Do not assess efficiency from visible condensate alone
The condensate seen at one moment does not describe seasonal efficiency. Operation, conditions and observation time all matter. Seeing no discharge for a short period therefore does not prove a fault.
Do not open the trap or alter the drain to perform a test. Drainage problems, fault codes or leaks need assessment. During boiler maintenance, the professional can examine the relevant components according to the model’s instructions.
Prepare useful observations
Record approximate weather, operating times, rooms that heat poorly and accessible user settings. Photograph the display without removing the casing. Distinguish space-heating periods from times when domestic hot water is being produced.
Brussels homes vary greatly in insulation and pipework. A useful assessment seeks to improve your complete installation without promising a universal percentage saving. If replacement is considered, distribution and controls remain as important as the new appliance.
Frequently asked questions
Should every boiler use the same temperature?
No. Settings depend on the building, emitters and controls. Do not confuse flow and return temperatures.
Is a boiler that condenses little necessarily faulty?
No. Operating conditions can limit condensation. Measurements help distinguish settings, circuit issues and faults.
Can I check the condensate trap myself?
Do not dismantle it to assess efficiency. Report leaks or abnormalities and carry out only user tasks specified in the manual.
Have your heating operation checked
Describe displayed temperatures and room comfort. We can prepare a check suited to your boiler and circuit.
