Two bathrooms: how do you choose a suitable Bulex boiler?

Preparing project notes at a desk
Identify flows and fittings before choosing a boiler.

Adding a second bathroom improves comfort, provided hot water production and pipework can keep up. Two bathrooms do not necessarily require twice the power: it depends on simultaneous use. Before choosing a Bulex boiler, describe the intended fittings and the comfort you expect when several people use water at once.

Planning a project beside a wall-mounted boiler
A hot water project starts with intended use and available space.

Describe the most demanding period

Start with a concrete scenario. Do you want two showers at once, or a bath filling while someone else showers? A water-saving shower and a large rainfall shower do not necessarily have the same flow. The fitting’s name is not enough: its actual consumption must be assessed.

For example, two showers each delivering 8 litres per minute use a combined 16 litres per minute of mixed water. This is not directly the hot water flow demanded from the boiler: the hot water proportion depends on temperatures. It nevertheless helps describe the expected service and compare options on the same basis.

Check the incoming supply and pipework

Good hot water production cannot compensate for every limitation in the network. The supply must provide the useful flow when taps are open together. Static pressure alone does not describe this behaviour: the professional also examines conditions during draw-off.

In a Brussels house arranged over several levels, pipe length and diameter influence the result. A second bathroom added in the attic may change the situation considerably. Mixers, local restrictions and distribution should be assessed before every comfort problem is attributed to the boiler.

The distribution network must suit simultaneous draw-offs.

Compare on-demand production and storage

An on-demand system must keep up with consumption throughout use. A storage system can cover a peak and then replenish its reserve. Sizing therefore needs to bring together flow, duration and the time available between uses.

Some Bulex boilers combine heating and hot water storage in one appliance. Other configurations use an external cylinder with a compatible boiler. Our Bulex boiler installation service helps prepare this choice. No model should be selected solely because marketing material mentions several water outlets.

Remember the journey to the taps

A distant bathroom may wait longer for hot water even when the appliance responds correctly. The water already in the pipe must first be displaced. The issue then concerns distribution as much as production.

During renovation, pipe routing and insulation can be assessed. A possible circulation loop needs suitable design and has its own energy use; it is not an automatic solution. Explain whether the problem concerns the initial wait, flow or temperature variations during a shower.

Plan the project before finishing work

Before walls are closed, have pipe routes, access and equipment space checked. Supply the data sheets for the intended taps and showers and a plan of both bathrooms. This allows the project to be assessed as a whole, instead of discovering a constraint after furniture is fitted.

For a home in Jette, Anderlecht or another Brussels municipality, our replacement approach includes changes in use. If the installation previously supplied both rooms correctly, request a diagnosis of the performance decline before planning a different appliance.

Frequently asked questions

Do two bathrooms require a hot water cylinder?

No. The choice depends on simultaneous flow rates and durations. Storage is an option to compare, not a requirement based on the number of rooms.

Does a more powerful boiler increase water pressure?

It does not increase the pressure supplied by the drinking water network. Heat output and hydraulic conditions are separate parameters.

What information should I send the heating specialist?

Boiler and shower references, a plan, intended simultaneous uses and photographs of accessible technical spaces are useful.

Plan comfort in both bathrooms

Tell us about your project and intended uses. We can help assess hot water production and distribution before you choose the equipment.
